Local Business Brief is a reference site. There are no accounts, no logins and no purchases, so there is very little to collect — and we would rather say exactly what there is than publish a generic notice describing things we do not do.

What we collect

Analytics

We use a web analytics service to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. This records things like pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, referring site, and browser and device type. We use it in aggregate to decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify individuals.

Server logs

Our host records standard request logs, including IP address, timestamp, requested URL and user agent. These are used for security and diagnosing faults.

Anything you send us

If you email us, we hold that message and your address for as long as needed to deal with it. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal information. We do not run a newsletter or maintain a marketing list. There is no account system, so we hold no passwords. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Cookies

The site sets a cookie to remember that you dismissed the cookie notice, and the analytics service sets its own cookies to distinguish repeat visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.

Third parties

Our analytics provider and our hosting provider process data on our behalf. Pages sometimes link to external sites — agencies, regulators, reference sources. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy practices apply, not ours.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, or to opt out of its sale or sharing — noting that we do not sell it. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws, and people in the UK and EEA, have such rights under their local law. To exercise any of them, email us.

Because we hold so little, a request usually resolves to confirming that we have nothing beyond aggregate analytics and any correspondence you sent us.

Retention

Analytics data is retained according to our provider's configured retention period. Server logs are retained on a short rolling basis. Correspondence is kept as long as it is useful for the matter it concerns.

Changes

If this notice changes materially we will update the date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means the updated notice applies.

Contact

To ask about anything in this notice, or to exercise any of the rights above, email [email protected]. Our postal address is on the contact page if you would rather write.
